                    Gout affects about 4% of American adults. It causes inflammation of the joints, especially the big toe. Gout patients often experience sudden and severe pain as a result of the inflammation.Interestingly, an analysis of 13 studies shows that taking vitamin c supplements for 30 days and prevented an incident or recurrent gout, compared with the placebo. Similarly, a study followed 46,994 healthy men over 20 years to determine the association between Vitamin C intake and the incidence of gout. This study indicated that study participants who took Vitamin C had a 44% less chance of having gout.

                  3. Increases iron absorption
                    Iron is necessary for many bodily functions, including red blood cell production and the transportation of oxygen around the body. Vitamin C converts iron from plant-based foods that are poorly absorbed into a readily absorbable form. Therefore, Vitamin C is strongly recommended for vegans since meat is a major source of iron.Daily consumption of 100mg Vitamin C can increase iron absorption by 67%. One paper indicated that administering Vitamin C to children with mild iron deficiency can control the risk of anemia.

                  4. Boosts the immune system
                    Vitamin C is known for preventing curable conditions such as scurvy. This nutrient boosts immunity by encouraging the production of lymphocytes and phagocytes, which protects the body against infections. Furthermore, Vitamin C protects white blood cells against toxic free radicals. This makes white blood cells function effectively. Similarly, studies show that Vitamin C reduces the time for wound healing. Vitamin C also reduces the severity of allergic reactions. Patients with pneumonia tend to have lower Vitamin C levels. Fortunately, administering Vitamin C supplements can reduce their recovery time. Thus, vitamin C is recommended for everyone who desires to stay fit and healthy.

                  5. Reduces the risk of chronic diseases
                    Vitamin C is a strong antioxidant that reinforces the body’s natural defenses. Antioxidants are molecules that protect the cells against toxic free radicals. Oxidative stress occurs when these radicals accumulate. Oxidative stress is associated with many chronic diseases. People with Vitamin C deficiency often have exercise-induced oxidative stress. Furthermore, the antioxidant levels can increase by 30% following the consumption of a significant amount of Vitamin C.                   The symptoms associated with Vitamin C deficiency include slowly healing wounds, painful and swollen joints, weak bones, bleeding gums, low immunity, fatigue, and poor mood. Other symptoms common to people with deficient Vitamin C levels are unexplained weight gain, bright red hair follicles, dry and rough skin, and easy bruising.
